Meet Ms. Dana Ponsky, college counselor extraordinaire. Six years at the Scheck Hillel Community School in Miami, Florida in addition to one year at Bullis School in Potomac. She has also worked at University of Miami, Barry University, and the University of Michigan. Suffice to say, she knows college, and Hamodiya wanted to get to know her.
Hamodiya: What are you looking forward to the most this coming year?
Ms. Ponsky: I am most excited about building great relationships with the students and helping them achieve their short and long term goals.
H: What is one surprising thing all students should know about you?
MP: I am the holder of the world’s most useless information which makes me a valuable asset when playing Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy.
H: How did you come to love being a college guidance counselor?
MP: I started out working directly with incoming college students on the university side, but realized that students needed support prior to college, and I chose to change my focus to high schoolers and the rest is history.
H: What motivates you?
MP: Watching students evolve throughout high school and knowing that my guidance and support will make them successful no matter what they choose to do after high school.
H: What do you like to eat/cook?
MP:I am a bit of a foodie who enjoys cooking for friends and family. I enjoy almost all cuisines but there is nothing better than an amazing bagel and lox concoction!
H: What is your favorite sports team?
MP:My grandmother used to love the NY Mets and so as a kid I knew every player on the 1986 World Series Champs, but today, I tend to go for the team that is the underdog.
